i like bags of jelly, jelly bags for me

Jelly shoes. Oh the childhood memories. The sweaty feet, the cracking soles and the borderline poisonous plastic smell. But now that we are all growed up should we dare? The plastic fantastic were revamped by Vivienne Westwood with her jelly heels and flats and now this rather stupid trend (that i love) has morphed into bags.
AND OH HOW I LOVE BAGS!!
Mr fabulouso Michael Kors bought out a range of plasteek chic bags and mmm mmm don't even get me started on Furla Candy bags. For those of us not quite in the"money bags" category this trend is probably one that needs to stay with the rich and famous. But if you are feeling brave the safest way to wear the jelly bag is definitely go for the "frosted" style. Its subtler and looks less "90s teen buys bag from Crazy Clark's" than the clear plastic option.
oh...and one more handy hint... these bags are see through so it goes without saying keep the contents of the bag simple and clean (snotty Kleenex, rubbers and those bits of junk that usually end up forming small ecosystems in the abyss of our bags need to do like Wham and gogo).

fuzzy wuzzy waz a bear... now hes my jacket

Meret Oppenhiem Le Déjeuner en fourrure (breakfast in fur) 1936
Winter is fast approaching and so comes the timeless (and sometimes tragic) trend of fur. This look was first sported 250000 years ago by the house of homo-sapian in the caves of Ethiopia. Since then we've seen the trend take its place as a recurring 'go to' winter staple on the catwalks and to the streets. Now before we get all P.E.T.A on this #$*@ lets remember where fashion has moved thanks to modern technology. We now have beautiful faux fur options to help us stay on trend without feeling like Cruela Deville. But for those of us without a conscience most places stocking real fur this winter are ensuring that the animals used for these garments have been sustainably sourced and produced. What this basically means is that the rabbits they used to make that vest, were produced on either a farm or an area where they are a pest and the rest of the rabbit ends up in the supermarket (gone are the seal clubbing days). Feel better? Well either way you chose you can still have a go at this trend and your audience will be none the wiser.

So enough with personal politics. How to wear this trend (without looking like Donatella Versace)
The key here is not to make the fur "the statement piece" instead you should be aiming to dull it down (avoiding looking like a pimp is key). The easiest way to do this is to add some casual layers or incorporate your fur into your accessories ie. belts, bags, hats, scarves or shoes. My Favourite type of fur trend is 'pony fur'. Faux or real either way its a subtler option for those of us wanting to give fur a go. So lets look to the stars and see how they wear fur and check out the links below for some affordable options.

Pretty Pastels

They are coming in in a vengeance on the streets of New york which means (given that aus fashion is 6 months behind the top end of the globe thanks to our seasons) that if we get in there and buy them now we will get a years wear out of them. This look is based around feminine 50s fashion so keep it clean cut and Conservative. The easiest way to wear pretty pastels is in the top. Since were heading for the cooler months in the land down under why not grab a mod knit sweater in pale pink or grab a baby blue blazer paired with light jeans and pale pumps. If your on a beggars budget go down to the good old op shop (there getting all there winter attire out) and pick out some pastel knits (the type Jackie O would have worn over a collard shift dress). Check out a few budget bargains are available at the bottom of this post.

floru accents

Fluro!..were seeing it everywhere, in our glossy mags, on the runway of LMFF and now its merging onto our streets. This look is sure to expire by late winter when it then shall fall into the "fashion victim" basket and every Jane Doe flaunts it. So if you want it...get it now.
BUT BE WARNED! you must be careful on how you wear it. We don't want a repeat on the unfortunate case of the Neon we had in 2009 (See picture). The best and safest way to wear this trend is definitely through your accessories. As usual I have posted some links at the bottom of this post for some cheaper alternatives. Otherwise get thrifty and go on the prowl at your local op shop for some Bakelite neon Nana necklaces.
So if your looking for something on trend this season Adding florescent accents to your attire this autumn may be just the ticket.

On style, taste and magazines

If you had to put into one word how to describe you style what would it be?
Indie?
hipster?
kitsch?
fashionista?
...............the list goes on and on
When i think about how I dress I would have to say i dress %30 mood %60 on trend and %10 expression of style. I usually opt out for comfort unless I have no intention of leaving the house. (Bridgett Jones underpants and all). This added together often manifests into what can only be described as a cleaner looking version of a hipster. I do however generally seem to be drawn back to similar colour schemes, cuts and favourites. These things i feel drawn to are what I would describe as my "style". This explains why I've ended up with shelves of high waisted shorts, boxes of loafers and countless loose fitting tees.

but how do we end up with these "styles"?...
Well ultimately fashion houses have determined the trends then its up to media to highlight what trends go where.  An example of this can be seen through magazines. Look at your magazine rack..what types do you usually go for? Australian Vogue perhaps? If Vogue is to fashionista as Rush is to Indie and Frankie is to kitsch does it then seem logical that the media is helping aid your decision to what you will be buying and how you express yourself?
I think yes, though ultimately you make the last and most important selection of attire when you get ready for the day.

Take it down a notch

We all went there with the high-top bun but I think it's time this "it" fad fell. While I still believe there is a place for this up-top bun you might want to consider a few subtler variations.
An easy way to transition this look is as simple as adding a middle part or dropping that hairball to just above the hair line. Alternatively boycott the bun altogether and go for the casual low pony tail.
